Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. It is a little complicated. I purchased the computer with Windows preinstalled and I think it may have been Windows 8.

However I have a dvd disc for Windows Home 64bit. When I ran toubleshooter, the message was that Microsoft had my activation key for Windows Pro but that I needed to install Windows Home to reactivate. However when I run the reinstall program from the disc it only allows me to install Windows Pro and not Windows Home. There is no Activation Key with the disc but there is a Key taped to my computer which I tried to activate with but was rejected.

To solve the activation I need to install Windows Home from the disc. I chose Windows Pro because that is what I had before the crash. Now when I run the disc I am only given the choice of running Windows Pro which does not activate. I’m responding on my laptop as my problem desktop computer won’t start not your fault. I created the USB disc as instructed except that my old HP Chinese keyboard didn’t have a left square parentheses key to add the text you indicated.

I downloaded a free key changing program and reassigned the key listed for that parentheses to F9 which was on the keyboard. I needed to reboot the computer to effect the change. That’s where the problem started. The reboot put me into the blue screen troubleshooting program and nothing I’ve done gets me out of that. I’ve tried all the repairs and new installations of Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro which were listed as new installs.

Now I have options to change into one of three Windows 10 listed programs but a reboot always puts me back into the Windows Home disc program offering a new install or a repair none of which will start Windows on my computer. This is beyond frustration as the original crash on my working desktop happened during copying some non commercial dvd’s which led to a boot failure which led to a new installation losing my installed programs which has brought me to a computer that won’t start.

I can reinstall most programs once I have a working Windows 10 Pro computer which I had before the crash. I clearly need your help before I make a bigger mess. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.
