I read the reviews that rated this software highly and thought I’d be purchasing an affordable software package to do some of my fairly simple video editing after having used two other products that seemed to come up short on their marketing promises. At first it seemed to work OK as I began to learn my way around in the tool. After a few initial crashes, I downloaded a patch that seemed to stabilize it – at least enough to produce a video from start to finish most of the time.

I wasn’t doing anything fancy, just a simple video capture, adding a soundtrack, and clumsily tinkering with a DVD menu enough to produce a primitive video that served its purpose. I found the help files to be fairly devoid of meaningful content, certainly nothing like I am accustomed to in documentation from other software. The product actually has more to it than the help files would lead you to believe, especially since it has little or no content on how to perform these tasks beyond a simple description of each function — no examples or how-to details that would guide an inexperienced user.

The documenation almost seems like it is meant to discourage you from using the product. I quickly ran into its limits on the audio capabilities and for that reason alone I would recommend using something else that has greater control over clip-level rather than track-level settings without losing them and with something that has more than just the two audio tracks.

Lately, it has become more frustrating with frequent crashes in the final stages of producing or burning to DVD. I’ll be switching to Sony Vegas for the same price but with significantly greater capabilities.

First, this is a great program for the price. I struggled with Adobe Premier for a year or so. It constantly crashed and was not friendly. Decided that I needed more computing power. Put a virgin copy on a new quad 4 pc with 4 GB ram, still crashes.

Went looking for a new program. PowerDirector was rated well by many reviewers.
